Was So Hot," #24 Swapping Stories
Lonnie Gray: I'll tell you one about hot weather. Several years ago it was real hot and dry. One day I walked out to take a look at my garden about one o'clock. Hot, about 95 degrees. It was pretty sandy in my garden. I noticed a lizard crawling through that sand. He had a forked stick in his mouth. I was wondering. I'd just watch him to see what he was going to do with that forked stick. That sand would get so hot to his feet that he'd stick that stick in the ground, crawl up in that fork, let his feet cool off, then he'd get down and go again.
