Dear Mr. Doe:

My 4th grade class is studying careers in the music industry. I chose the job of recording engineer for my project because I am interested in becoming a recording engineer one day. I am contacting you because I have been told you are one of the best engineers in our area. I would like some information about your work. I hope you will take a few minutes to answer my questions.

  1. When did you begin your recording career?
  2. Please tell me about your typical day at your work.
  3. What does it look like where you work?
  4. What kinds of special equipment and tools do you use in your job?
  5. What kind of training is required for your job? Are there any tricks of the trade that you have, and how did you learn them?
  6. What kinds of music and musicians are you known for recording?
  7. What was your favorite recording project and why?
  8. Are there any stories or jokes about your experiences at work that you could share?
  9. What advice would you have for someone like me who is considering becoming a recording engineer?

Please suggest any other sources you think I should use. Our assignment is due April 30, so please send me the answers to these questions by March 30. Your answers will really help me in writing a job description of your work for my class. Our class will also do a presentation about the music industry after we gather all our information.

Thank you for your time and for helping me with this project.

Sincerely,

Lee Jones
